Art therapy – the way to creativity and psychohygiene also in work teams

A time full of uncertainty, great demands and stress. There is no end in sight to all these unpleasant accompanying phenomena, but it is also necessary to live. The use of art therapy is one of the ways to deal with stress, anxiety or excessive demands on us.

For the benefit of art therapy, it is not necessary to be able to paint. On the contrary, the less we are influenced by the form and learned procedures, the greater the benefit of art therapy for us.

Art therapy as a benefit for employees

One of the benefits of art therapy is a very gentle and non-violent form of work with our often overloaded psyche. Thanks to the involvement of other systems of our psyche, in addition to those rationally cognitive, which are often suppressed and unused. If we overload our rational-performance component for a long time, we get into a one-sided perception of reality and there is only more and more overload of these mental systems.

The involvement of other than well-known processes, such as painting, music, or other forms of creative work, releases overloaded systems. It creates space for new resources, a wider perception of the world around us and also feelings of great relaxation, relief and the possibility to continue on.We will not change the situation around us. But we can change our perception of reality.

Whether we are engaged in other, creative activities for an hour or an entire weekend, both have benefits. Activation of non-rationally verbal processes and has far-reaching and long-term benefits for the restoration, prevention and maintenance of complex health.

The benefit of art therapy methods is very wide. We have already mentioned the benefits of psychohygiene or stress relief. In addition to these benefits, it can also be mentioned that other possibilities of the potential of the team and the individual can be mentioned. Establishing a relationship with yourself. Understanding some, hitherto overlooked, aspects of one’s own personality. Whether those who are waiting for their application – hidden and undiscovered talents, or those that unconsciously block me – unconscious fears, blocks, anxieties.

Last but not least, professionally guided art therapy is a great way to bridge some of the barriers between team members, clearing the atmosphere of relationships. It is an ideal opportunity to start the real development of team potential. Especially if there is an opportunity to follow up on this introduction with other techniques of the field of relational health.
